This book invites us to unpack our resistance, judgment and impatience and embark on a practice of patience and understanding. It will provide tools and techniques to take responsibility for your feelings as they are uniquely yours and to practice Yoga as a way to be fully alive and in relationship with all parts of yourself.  This is the unity that Yoga teaches us to attain, as well as the experience of resilience.  To be resilient is to arrive whole and alive in the midst of hardship and challenge, to take down the bricks of protection and projection and be vulnerable (and malleable), to be open to being changed by a situation and to relinquish control.

To be resilient doesn’t mean you have to be ok, but it does mean that you are responsible and aware of how you are. The practice of Yoga teaches us to use the tools of discernment to work in the places where you find yourself. The point isn’t to survive or succeed, the point is simply and powerfully to LIVE.

To be alive in every moment regardless of where that moment leads us. That is Yoga. That is resilience. And it is present in ALL of us.

Amy J. Smith, Poet, Bodyworker, Former Yoga Teacher Trainer

In the west, there is a perception of yoga as just a physical practice. In fact, yoga consists of much deeper teachings that go far beyond the physical. Life is hard. It’s also beautiful. Embracing that contradiction, and learning to live with the “both/and” of paradox is the essence of yoga. The Yoga of Resilience addresses the paradoxes that we run into daily, and raises questions that any yoga student and every yoga teacher can benefit from considering. As a former yoga teacher and studio owner, I think this book is a timely and necessary addition to the yoga world. I would love to see this book become required reading in yoga teacher training programs.

IT’S HERE!!!

At its core, Yoga invites practitioners to live fully in the midst of hardship while staying open to the possibility of being transformed by life experiences. Drawing on the foundations of Yoga philosophy, this book provides guideposts for living a resilient life through deepening the understanding and experience of Yoga. Often redefining the popular understanding of Yoga, this book provides practical and applicable tools to reclaim practice as a way to be fully alive and aware, thereby unpacking the resistance, judgment and impatience that stand in the way of living a resilient life.

We cannot control the environment, the circumstances, or the outcome. We can only choose how we will meet these things. THIS is where Yoga becomes a practice. This is where resilience can be cultivated. In “this or that” moments, we can remember the infinite opportunities that fill the invisible space between the two choices. We can slow down and feel, we can identify our habits and patterns of protection and reaction, we can be gentle and forgiving with ourselves, and proactive in our engagement. We can set boundaries NOT as a means to separate but as opportunities to re-calibrate and re-align with our inner guidance that is quietly but consistently pointing us in the necessary direction
